The project was developed by Xing Wang in collaboration with the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design. The design team was organized by Prof. Markus Holzbach and was exhibited in Frankfurt in January 2011. It explores the structure and combinatorics of cellular geometry, relying entirely on computational design.
The aim of the project was to create a pavilion inside the Diamantenbörse in Frankfurt. It was based on Möbius geometry with a 3d Voronoi structure model.
He tried to integrate special lighting effects for the media show during the exhibition. The 3d model of the vronoi structure is produced as straight wood panels on a 5 axis milling machine and assembled on site. In order to save time and materials, most of the wood panels have been cut to 3 axis cutting method, only both ends of the inclined panels are cut through the 5-axis setting.
The task was to create complex 3D structures in a parametric way, as well as to prepare fully detailed CNC production dossiers for a CNC laboratory. The parametric solution for this system made it possible to adjust the structure many times at various stages of design.
